Welcome to your dream job, Goofy
According to a survey released last week, more than four out of five U.S. workers don't have their dream jobs. Not exactly stunning. I think the dream for most people is to NOT have a job and still get paid.
How many people do you see break into tears when they retire?
OK, there was Troy Aikman a few years ago. But he didn't have a real job -- he was a pro football player. That's why it was understandable when he shed tears like a third grader in the last 10 minutes of Old Yeller.
But I don't think the retiring assistant regional manager of Big Bob's Hardware would get all weepy.
"I just can't believe it's over, that my day has come. ... Monday morning, I won't hear the cheery buzz of the 6 a.m. alarm, get dressed, fight traffic and ... I'm sorry, I need a moment to collect myself."
Most people would just need a moment to collect their things and say, "See ya suckers!"
The funniest part of the dream-job survey story was that it was partly sponsored by The Walt Disney Co., which has a contest in which winners get a chance to work at a Disney park for a day.
You mean I get to walk around dressed up like Goofy for an entire day? And can I also point out to people where the bathrooms are in Fantasyland? Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!
It brings me to tears just thinking about it.
