A very, very big Michael Vick supporter

I got a lot of response from Monday's column on Michael Vick and dogs. I love dogs, so I'm not surprised that most of the e-mails came from dog lovers. A few people took Vick's side, saying he is being treated more harshly because he's a celeb.
Whatever your opinion, I appreciate the e-mails. I received one earlier today, however, that's a little extreme. If you don't like dogs, fine. I know some nice people who don't like dogs.
But this person ... Well, good luck to anyone that crosses her path. She didn't leave her name, but here's the text of the e-mail from the person I've nicknamed "Sunshine":
Mr. Vick should NOT be held responsible for dog fighting.
For all the really important issues locally, nationally and globally - this is a wasted cause. There are far too many dogs in the world anyway - what's the difference if they are destroyed at a shelter (an oxymoron) or pitted for show one last time?
Dog fighting is a facet of men's personalities showing the need for dominance and aggression. Throughout history there has been bear baiting, cock fights, bull fights - even Pokemon is cock fighting for children! Am I the only one who sees that?
Neglected dogs, pets that have not been spayed or neutered, die a horrible death, some sooner than others. Dog fighting gets it over with quick.
I'll bet Mr. Vick and others involved took better care of those animals than my neighbors do theirs. A short, healthy, colourful life and a quick death. No so bad compared to a dog is left in a hot car with the windows up, in a sunny yard with no water, or left leashless and collarless to be run over on the highway.
And dogs are NOT loved around the world - most countries eat them. Every time there is a bark - that's dinner! Yes, I hate dogs. Let me say that again. I HATE dogs. I hate their owners. Dog fighting just concentrates the aggravation and death. Dogs, next to kids, are the reason why people are so angry. Just because you can get a dog doesn't mean you have to have one. Waking people up, mauling children, crapping up streets and parks, always in the way. Dogs are useless. At best they are now a crappy lawn ornament ignored and sometimes abused.
Not once did you mention BARKING DOGS! They BARK! All night. All day. Wherever they go. I had to threaten my neighbor with the police to silence her dog between midnight and 6 A.M., something a rational person should already know. This is the same lady who yells at her kids but speaks softly to the dog. Guess the dog is on her level.
Get a dog and you will NEVER be spontaneous again. I broke up with guys with dogs and now won't even date a guy with a dog. They can't spend the night away, can't take a weekend without a lot of planning, when the dog gets sick then it's TIME and MONEY. One guy asked before going on a date, "What do we do with the dog?" What's this 'we' crap? I'm dogless - by choice!
Hmm ... why would anyone want to break up with her?

Please email her back one more time to make sure she knows that Leona Helmsley just left 12 million dollars to her dog in her will.

Hmmmm...no boyfriends...hates dogs...hates kids....no wonder she has such a happy, optimistic outlook on life. Sunshine is a perfect name for her.
Oh, she forgot to rail about cats and those darn birds that sing in the trees and the annoying flowers that alsways want watering.

Yikes! I'm guessing my insulin dependent cat would send her over the edge....

That's so sad to see someone say such things about dogs. I've grown up with them and they have helped me through some of the hardest times of my life.
To be so selfish and cruel to another living being that depends their lives on the people they love and adore... that's really sad.
Of course, this isn't always the case with dogs. But for the majority I've seen? It is.
I hope that she finds some /true/ sunshine in her life so that she doesn't have to live so negatively.
If you're reading, Sunshine, this is a very heartfelt 'I'm sorry,' to you.

That was awesome! Rarely do you get to read such a pure, venon-riddled rant. It was even well written and insightful on some levels.
Mostly, however, it was a disturbing look at someone with possibly serious anger issues directed at some of our society's most beloved segements. I mean to attack dogs and children is one thing, but to go after Pokemon.
I hope I don't know this person. And I really hope she's not armed.
Gotta go crack the windows a little.

Isn't she in the new movie "Must Hate Dogs!"

Wow! What a sweetheart! Did she leave a phone number? I bet her phone is just ringing off the hook- who wouldn't want to hang around such an articulate, effervescent (and possibly British from the spelling of "colourful") PEACH of a human being. People are SO drawn to the Cruella de Ville's of the world.
