Britney and Madonna: the kiss of doom

During this week in 2003, Madonna and Britney Spears kissed on the MTV Music Awards. It was a little controversial, although not to the extent of the Janet Jackson Super Bowl halftime show.

A photo of the kiss in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution drew reader complaints, and the newspaper apologized. Spears brushed it off, saying that it was just kind of a kiss that shared the magic of Madonna's pop superstardom with Spears.

Funny quote about the kiss from back then:

I was really kind of nervous! I was like, 'Oh my God, my mom...she's going to see this!"' Spears told Access Hollywood.

Nothing probably shocks her mom anymore.
