Thanksgiving disaster is just a turkey away

JUAN GARCIA/DMN

Mondays are always better when it's a short work week. And isn't Thanksgiving great?

Well, not if you don't properly cook the turkey. So it's time for this reminder from the U.S. Department of Agriculture:

Turkeys can be the party headquarters for Salmonella bacteria.

That’s according to the USDA’s poultry-preparation fact sheet, which has useful tips for turkey, a widely domesticated bird that is often found in areas of North America, generally between two slices of bread.

How to cook that turkey and how to make your Thanksgiving perfect -- or at least not burn down your house -- is in today's column: Turkey tips for the big day.
