American Idol stereotypes

Over on the DallasNews.com American Idol blog, it's pointed out that on the Dallas auditions shown last night, it was stereotype-o-rama ...

What would a Dallas show be without the theme song from Dallas, some cows, cowboys and cowboy hats.

That's what I grew up with in Arizona. Every time there was an event in Phoenix, they would show cactus -- cacti, actually -- and rattlesnakes. And then people in cowboy hats. One time a "saloon" was shown. My cousins who lived in Minnesota thought that we rode horses to school.

My favorite, however, was that at least once per year, a show would say, "Welcome to Phoenix," and then show someone trying to fry an egg on the sidewalk.

Such a proud moment.

But it's OK, because I am your brother. I mean, I AM YOUR BROTHER!
