Baby boom in America

Bucking the trend in many other wealthy industrialized nations, the United States seems to be experiencing a baby boomlet, reporting the largest number of children born in 45 years.

Wow. What an exciting time for our country, as well as Babies 'R Us. But this story sure knows how to throw a wet blanket -- probably from drool or baby spit-up -- on the party.

Experts believe there is a mix of reasons: a decline in contraceptive use, a drop in access to abortion, poor education and poverty.

What a bummer. At least I can say that none of those above reasons are why my wife and I are contributing to the baby boom. We just felt that with only two kids, we would have way too much free time and not enough dents in our walls.
