Dirty hotels are here again

Last year, I saw a report about how bed bugs are being found at a lot of hotels. Even some visitors at nicer hotels have been bitten by bed bugs -- the common name for Cimex lectularis, an insect that survives by mooching off a host animal, preferably a human. Kind of like Kato Kaelin.
Anyway, one of the tips for travelers was to not throw your luggage on the bed when you enter a room. Apparently this alerts the bed bugs so they can scurry out and get a piece of you.
Useful tip, but there's really only one way to be safe. When you enter the hotel room, take off the comforter and other blankets that are on top of the bed sheets. Then take the bed sheets off, drive to a nearby coin-op laundry to clean them, and then drive back to the hotel.
You're probably very tired at this point, so just sleep in the driver's seat with the sheets over you. As dirty as your car is, it's probably cleaner than anything in the hotel.
