Girl Scout Cookies are tax deductible
Sadly, Thin Mints are not thinning.
But hey, you want to support these kids and their dreams. Wouldn't you be neglecting your responsibility to help America's youth if you didn't buy a couple boxes?
And hey, they're tax deductible!
A tax professional confirmed that it's true. But here's the catch:
The cookies are only tax deductible if you don’t eat them, and instead donate the cookies back to the Scouts.
How depressing is that? I know Girl Scouts is a worthy organization, but I enjoyed charitableness much more with a mouthful of Thin Mints or Do-Si-Dos.
So don't get yourself in trouble. And if you've eaten them in the past and still claimed them as a deduction, well ...
It’s best to admit now that you ate the cookies. You might even want to make restitution payments, which can be done by sending any remaining Girl Scout cookies to the Internal Revenue Service.
I'm told the IRS will go easy on you if you send Caramel Delites and Samoas.
